Study of gene action in different traits of maize (Zea mays L.)

A study was conducted on maize incorporating a total of 28 single crosses, eight parental lines and two standard checks to determine the combining ability gene action. Among eleven traits that were studied, analysis variance revealed mean squares due genotypes, parents hybrids highly significant for all traits, except 100 grain weight in case parents, indicating presence an adequate amount genetic variability. Onfurther ability,the GCA SCA observed be almost role both additive non components expression studied traits.The  high gca effect yield per plant associated with high or average gcafor component most while poor combiners also other traits.High sca effects seen few cross combinations which good specific traits.Based some inbred identified as general various traits. This indicated these could utilized developing synthetic variety.The desirable agro-morphological inter-crossed develop improved base population subsequent recurrent selection efforts would facilitate derivation elite excelling character.All ofthe exhibiting having one parent combiner each agro morphological studied.It clear either  the related Hence, they can used potential hybrid combination tested further.The crosses show indicate preponderance non-additive genes heterosis breeding.
